Depending on the particular piece of music, Scorch often lets you print one page for free before you buy. This is a very good idea; it lets you check that your printer is set up correctly. If no free print is available, you can test your settings by printing the free sheet on our Test Your Printer page.
To print, don't click Print at the top of your browser window, or Print in the File menu, or type Command-P or Ctrl+P - these will print the web page, not the score. Instead, find the score again and click the Print button on the Scorch toolbar (immediately above the music).
Check that your printer is switched on, contains paper and is plugged into your computer. If all these conditions are met, please consult your computer's or printer's manual, or see if there is still a problem below.
With most printers, don't turn off the printer - just feed in some more paper and it should continue printing.
Your computer may have several different sound devices you can use (e.g. soundcard, software synthesizer, MIDI output); some of these may be silent or have inferior sounds. Find the score again, click Scorch's Sound button, and choose a different device.
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then select the Fit to Paper option found in the Print dialog box. (On Mac, this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then change the Substitute Lines option found in the Print dialog box. (On Mac, this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then change the Substitute Arpeggios, gliss., etc. option found in the Print dialog box. (On Mac, this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then change the Substitute Braces option, if there is one found in the Print dialog box. (On Mac, this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
We have heard of some recent printers by Kodak as well as a few others that trigger the security feature in Scorch to try to prevent customers from 'Printing to file' and thus getting a digital/PDF copy of the score they are printing. In this instance, you will not be able to print to your printer.
Scorch does not allow printing to a file. Kodak printers use a non-standard print spooling procedure that is similar to printing to file. This is why you may be getting the error message that you are not allowed to print to file.
If this is the case, we recommend using a different printer to print your purchase.
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then switch on the Substitute Lines option found in the Print dialog box. (On Mac, this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
When buying a score, you can't print more copies than you have paid for.
Try changing your printer's font settings. For instance, in Windows try printing again but click Properties in the Print dialog box, then try changing options which affect font printing, such as Print fonts as graphics or Print TrueType as graphics (usually on the Font tab of the Properties dialog box).

Missing noteheads or noteheads replaced by squares or other curious markings can occur for a variety of reasons such as upgrading or reinstalling Sibelius Scorch. Often the problem can easily be solved by deleting a few specific fonts from your computer, and then downloading and installing the latest version of Scorch from their website before reprinting your order. Please click on the following link for additional information and instructions:
If you have tried the above without success, check if you have the latest driver for your printer.
You should be able to download the latest driver from the printer manufacturer's website:
For other printers, please use your web browser to search for the manufacturer.
After downloading the driver, save it somewhere easy to find, such as on your desktop. Then install the new driver.
To install the new driver on Windows, click the Start button at the bottom left of the screen, then Settings, then Printers. Then double-click Add Printer and follow the instructions.
When asked for the manufacturer and model of your printer, if you have just obtained a new driver (e.g. by downloading it), click Have Disk... and find the new driver file you downloaded.
When you've finished, find the score again, click Scorch's Print button and print it to see if it works. You may need to consult this web page again to adjust the way it prints.
This error message appears when you are using a very old version of Scorch to view a file saved from a newer version of Sibelius or Sibelius Internet Edition. Try upgrading to a newer version of Scorch.
In certain circumstances, Scorch does not reinstall correctly if you try and install it after using Add/Remove Programs (in Control Panel) to uninstall an older version.
If Scorch was the only plug-in installed for your browser, the Scorch uninstaller also removes the Plugins folder. This means that when you attempt to reinstall Scorch, the installer cannot find the required folder to install the plug-in.
The solution is simple: re-create the Plugins folder in the correct location (e.g. for Internet Explorer, usually C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins), and then run the Scorch installer again.
